I think you're onto a wonderful find, but an important part of these incorrect animal names is that they sort of look like that thing they're named after! Perhaps sandcat should be called a sandbat or sandfly, for it can fly like a bat or a fly? ...Ig.. Ignore the sand part, please. And the part about it being named after a wholly incorrect animal group, still. Shh.

--Oh wait. If this hypothetical bird is a flightless one, then it should totally be called sandcat! Because, uhhh... it has uh, gleaming eyes!

I think we need to start naming non marine animals the way we do certain marine animals

Jellyfish: not a fish, a cnidarian, mainly water not really jelly

Starfish: not a fish, an echinoderm, yeah its a star tho ill allow it

I propose:

Sandcat: it's a bird that is native to a landlocked country with no sand anywhere in sight
